My recent paintings are views of the Périgord region in southwest France, where the landscape reveals history at every turn. Périgord is the site of continuous habitation since the Stone Age and witness to the conflicts of the Hundred Years War during the Middle Ages. It is a land of limestone escarpments, of fortified villages and the remains of monasteries, of towers and turrets, of passageways to the past.
Inspired by the vestiges of those earlier times, I have found views where light and shadow play on stone.
